Get Workout Buddies gets in an Edinburgh newsletter
Last week I was very happy to see my workout buddies group get mentioned in The Edinburgh Minute! It's a local newsletter with over 22,000 readers and they have a community section for events and groups. Here's the ad I wrote:
I checked my Tally form and saw that I had had a surge of signups, which was a very cool feeling! On the signup form I ask people how they found out about the workouts community and lots were saying The Edinburgh Minute. Here's how my signups looked for the early hours on Wednesday (I've redacted the names):
I was hoping this trend would continue and I'd end the day with a hundred-odd signups but the amount of people slowed to a trickle as the day went on. However, I'm still really glad!
If you have a local business like a cafe, a community group or anything like that, I'd definitely try to get a mention in a local newsletter. With the Edinburgh Minute there are over 22,000 people in my city that I can reach with a mention. So that's a great way to target people locally.
I think as well this is one of the benefits of starting a community in one place first - you can reach lots of people easily if you know the city they are in. This is totally different to if I was making a SaaS - for sure, I wouldn't get a mention in a local newsletter if I was making a ChatGPT wrapper. And if I tried to launch the workouts community for the whole world at the start, I wouldn't be able to get local press.
First Edinburgh, then the world 😀
